Important results from the project
The goal - to produce large scintillators for medical applications - have been met on most of the points defined at the start of the project. For several reasons a decision was taken to develop on a chip a quarter the size of a full scale one, which was approved by Vinnova.
Expected long term effects
The project has resulted in cooperation with new partners able to deliver and reproduce the silicon structures needed. The good results regarding the reflector and the filling process have lead to more interested customers and toghether with one of them we now have a EU project granted for further development of the structures. The project is called NEMADE and aims to develop a new generation of detectors for mammography.
Approach and implementation
The development within this project has been taken forward stepwise by iterations. Scint-X has also been more involved in some steps of the development, mostly the DRIE, where we earlier had less knowledge about the processes. This way of running the project has given a lot of know-how about the structures, their properties, and how we can tailor our processes for different dimensions.
