Important results from the project

The primary purpose of the pilot project was to develop applications all the way to finished product, validated for use in a clinical setting. The reason why several applications were programmed at the same time was to elucidate how flexible collaboration robotics differs from traditional automation (which is tailor made for a particular application). Three applications were selected and completed during the project period. The work was initiated at Robotdalen in Västerås and then transferred to Karolinska University Laboratory´s premises in Huddinge.

Expected long term effects

In 2019, the project established a development center for flexible robot automation for healthcare. This development center is today located in Karolinska University Laboratory´s premises in Huddinge. There, a YuMi robot stands and works in daily activities at the same time as other departments at the hospital have the opportunity to be inspired and gain knowledge of this new type of flexible automation. Several further projects are planned to further develop existing applications and create new applications.

Approach and implementation

The project work has been very educational and developing for the employees at Karolinska University Laboratory. They have finely eliminated work environment problems that they have tried for several years to find good solutions to without success, until now. The hospital has also had the opportunity to influence the design of the robot applications with regard to, hygiene requirements and CE marking. The project has contributed to curiosity about robotics and the opportunities it can give employees to influence their work environment and process efficiency in the future.
