The purpose of the project was to dimension a pilot facility for an aquaponics farm using Fiskarhedens Trävaru AB in Transtrand as a starting point where waste heat is available. A defined method was also to be developed with purpose to rapidly identify potential farming capacity during initial selling meetings with potential clients. The input data was to be available waste heat and geographical conditions.

Expected long term effects

The dimension work has been collected in the Concept design document that will establish the foundation for upcoming construction, permits and funding activities. The method has been developed in an Excel model where the ingoing parameters and data can be readjusted in order to elaborate with the final result (outputs). This model will be developed in the upcoming project steps in order to validate the influence of the boundary conditions.

Approach and implementation

The project activities has been performed by several project members at different locations in Sweden. The results has been presented and discussed in the team in order to include different experts’ opinions and to gain a bigger understanding the complexity of the system.
