Important results from the project

The goal of the project was for Volvo Autonomous Solutions AB (VAS) together with Creative Design Environment Sweden AB (CDE) to develop a concept workplace for operators of autonomous vehicles and machines. Data was collected through interviews with end users and experts. Based on this material, the project team developed a 3D model and a physical prototype of an ergonomic and efficient workplace for operators of autonomous vehicles and machines. Finally, the physical prototype was evaluated on one of Volvos test sites.

Expected long term effects

The overall goal was to create a 3D model of a suitable workplace for operators of autonomous vehicles and machines. If this was successful, a physical prototype would also be produced. The workplace would be ergonomic and ensure the operator´s well-being to ultimately enable a safe transport solution. All these objective were successfully met.

Approach and implementation

The project included 3 work packages: -Concept development and production of a digital prototype. This was carried out in the form of interviews with end users and experts as well as study visits to Volvo´s test facilities. Based on this material, CDE developed a concept. -Production of a physical prototype. CDE produced a prototype based on the 3D model validated by Volvo. -Concept evaluation in the form of the prototype was installed at Volvo and tested and evaluated by test engineers and experts.
