Important results from the project
The first objective of the project is to investigate by measurement and simulation the possibilities to avoid small overlap accidents by detection of upcoming impacts using sensors in the subject vehicle and in the last moment before impact, automatically steer away the subject vehicle 20 40 cm, thus avoiding the accident entirely. Small overlap is difficult to handle using passive methods. Safety will benefit from a system capable of avoiding some (perhaps all) small overlap accidents.
