Important results from the project

The CoTwin project achieved its main objectives. A collaborative digital twin platform was developed and validated for real-time data sharing between vehicles and infrastructure. Demonstrations at NorthStar validated key components. A GDPR-compliant framework was co-developed with IMY via their regulatory sandbox. A hackathon with 60+ participants generated new use cases. The project resulted in multiple publications and built networks.

Expected long term effects

In the longer term, CoTwin´s results can contribute to safer and more efficient road transport through real-time data sharing between vehicles and infrastructure. The GDPR-compliant framework can influence EU data regulations for connected vehicles. The platform´s open architecture enables scalable deployment across European test environments. Commercial products and services based on CoTwin results are expected within 3-5 years.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out in two phases: platform development and validation. Work was organized in work packages with clear deliverables. Validation at NorthStar was completed as planned. Collaboration with IMY provided valuable GDPR insights. A hackathon was held with external participants. The project largely followed the timeline, with some delays due to regulatory complexity around vehicle data sharing.
