Purpose and goal

The aim is to provide Swedish industry with opportunities for efficient and flexible material development in a rapidly changing world. The focus is on products where the transport of liquids and substances is important for functionality. The goal is to combine AI methods for generating and processing material data with 3D imaging of materials and simulation of structure-dependent material function into a powerful and flexible concept for sustainable digitized material development.

Expected effects and result

The expected main result is a digital toolbox integrating imaging of material structure, AI-based image processing and virtual design, and simulation of mass transport. This enables an efficient and flexible digitized material development process. The effect of the digitized way of working is expected to be greater flexibility regarding choice of raw materials, faster adaptation to new conditions, as well as improved material function resulting in reduced energy or raw material consumption.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is a collaboration between five multinational industries, research instiute and academia. Two postdocs will collaborate with senior researchers to develop, apply and integrate methods and software along the entire chain. The methods will be applied to materials and applications chosen by the companies. Material production, validation and evaluation will be performed by the companies. During project meetings, companies and researchers will share experience, challenges and solutions.
