Important results from the project
The purpose of the requested funding was to cover the costs of two workshops on the theme of the book, to which the contributing authors were invited to discuss their contributions to the Handbook. Organizing these workshops built on the strong belief that giving the contributing authors the opportunity to ventilate and discuss their contributions prior to delivery of the final manuscripts would greatly enhance the quality of the book, give rise to ideational synergy effects, and eliminate thematic overlaps between the chapters in the book.
Expected long term effects
The face-to-face interaction that our workshops have offered has substantially increased both the quality of the book and its character as a cohesive unit. As a byproduct, these workshops also contributed to the establishment of an international network of researchers in the field of transparency.
Approach and implementation
The assigned grants have financed two workshops for discussion of the handbook´s 25 chapters. Each chapter has been discussed on two occasions, each time with two assigned discussants from the group of contributors. The first workshop took place in early February 2013 and with the feedback received on this occasion as the basis for revision, the authors returned with their substantially refined chapters to a second workshop in late May. The groundwork for publication is now in its final stages and the book manuscript will be delivered to the publisher in September 2013.
