Project duration | October 2014 - February 2017 |
Status | Completed |
Purpose and goal
The project has shown that edge trim from compression molded textiles can be recycled into valuable thermoplastic composites, having either natural fibers or glass fibers as reinforcement, at a lower cost than comparable new plastic materials. The ability to produce similar materials from dismantled vehicles was demonstrated.
Expected results and effects
There is ongoing development of thermoplastic composites from compression molded textiles. Users of molded fabric have developed a better understanding of how the components should be made more recyclable.
Planned approach and implementation
The project was conducted according to the project plan where material was collected from various sources, its properties were characterized and thermoplastic compounds were developed. Prototypes were made from the developed materials and evaluated by the companies.
