Important results from the project
The aim was to explore, in active collaboration with all stakeholders, possible ways of organizing meeting places involving patients and relatives as active and included parties in innovation, development and change in health care and social care. To achieve this, about 30 meetings were held with all stakeholders as well as a questionnaire sent out to patient associations. The program was co-created through these meetings and the proposals of the survey were taken into consideration.
Expected long term effects
The conference wanted to explore whether this is a good way to meet for a new movement such as the lead-patient-movement. Based on the evaluation we can conclude that the conference was successful in terms of both as an event and the content that was in the program. There is also an expectation to continue - which was one of the goals. The goal was that half of the participants would be patients / relatives and we achieved that. We also wanted every seminar to include patient or relatives in planning as well as execution and this was achieved as well.
Approach and implementation
November 18, 2019, we invited Sweden´s first national meeting for lead patients. Konferens Spetspatienter was a new meeting place for anyone interested in contributing to a new kind of patient participation. We gathered 150 patients / relatives and patient organizations and 150 others (caregivers / care organizations, authorities and politicians, regions / municipalities, researchers and companies in Aula Medica at Karolinska Institutet in Solna). We also invited people to follow and comment via the web. There was also an exhibition area for all stakeholders to meet.
