Important results from the project

The goal for BioInnovation is to increase the competitiveness of the Swedish bio-based sector by creating the best possible conditions for developing new bio-based materials and products. In 2020, BioInnovation underwent its six-year evaluation. When the evaluation was presented in December 2020, the program received positive reviews and is described as a well-functioning programme with strategic development and management and with an appropriate focus. The program is also considered to have a critically important role in the innovation system with great additionality.

Expected long term effects

During the first two stages, BioInnovation has carried out 17 calls, and 121 project have been started. The program has deepened its strategic agenda and actively participated in education and dialogue around a growing circular and bio-based economy. The program´s activities are expected to contribute to the following effects in the short term; gathering and commitment to the Swedish bioeconomy, realization of ideas with high potential, increased conditions for bio-based solutions on the market.

Approach and implementation

BioInnovation´s program office is responsible for coordinating ongoing activities, planning new calls for application, and working with communication and collaboration. The program has an office and a program board. BioInnovation has an expert team whose main task is to propose and develop calls. The team covers the areas of energy & fuel, textiles, construction & design, chemicals and materials.
