Important results from the project
The project met its objectives by developing a CMF Circularity Framework, a material attribute database, and a working AI agent that supports sustainable material decisions without compromising perceived quality. The project also generated new insights into designers’ needs for AI support, resulted in a published Master’s thesis, and established a foundation for a full-scale industrial follow-up study.
Expected long term effects
In the long term, the project is expected to support more circular vehicle design by enabling sustainable material decisions early in the development process. AI-based decision support can reduce carbon footprint, material waste, and lead times while maintaining customer acceptance. The project creates conditions for scalable adoption of circular CMF principles across industry.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out as planned, as a structured feasibility study that combined qualitative research, framework development, and AI prototyping. The activities were well-balanced and supported by effective collaboration between industry, research, and design partners. The timeline was met, no significant external constraints occurred, and the project evolved in line with its original objectives.
