Important results from the project

The project has succeeded in meeting its objectives by identifying key factors for sustainable rural logistics and developing a model that shows how strategically placed delivery points can reduce carbon emissions. The project has established a strong multi-stakeholder initiative with actors from academia, municipalities and the logistics industry, as well as international collaborations, which opens up opportunities for continued development and global perspectives on rural logistics.

Expected long term effects

The project is expected to contribute to reduced carbon emissions through better adapted logistics solutions and strategically located delivery points in rural areas. The results are also expected to strengthen cooperation between companies, municipalities and academia, which promotes regional development, increases accessibility to services and improves the quality of life of rural residents. This in turn can facilitate the national climate goals and stimulate sustainable growth in rural areas.

Approach and implementation

The project was structured with three work packages: consumer needs mapping, environmental modelling and multi-stakeholder engagement on business models and policy. The implementation followed the plan, although minor adjustments were needed due to practical challenges with data collection. The collaboration between academia, municipalities and logistics companies worked well and was crucial to the success. No major unexpected events occurred, but minor adjustments were made on an ongoing basis.
