Chromatopia-Innovative gamified laboratory education with instrument simulations for certified modern learning

Reference number
Coordinator Chromatopia Labtraining AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration December 2015 - October 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim was to develop and build a modern and functioning chromatographic ´HPLC´ simulator. In addition, a set of questions has been developed to validate the simulator. This simulator will be the cornerstone of our first education game. The targeted customers are laboratory staff that needs further training within the chromatography field. The training game is built upon gamification, simulation and e-learning. The simulator has successfully been evaluated by end users regarding function, learning abilities and user friendliness.

Expected results and effects

The developed simulator has given our education training game a unique and better advantage over traditional e-learning. The developed business plan and IP strategy has increased our company value and credibility. This will strengthen our abilities to find private investors which is crucial for finalizing the end product. This funding has also given us new contacts and increased competence.

Planned approach and implementation

This project has been divided into several sub projects. First an evaluation was conducted of the earlier developed demo by end users from four clinical laboratories in Sweden and Norway. The demo has also been used when marketing our product to executives and possible investors. The demo evaluation results has then taken into consideration when developing the simulator. The simulator was then developed in close collaboration with a computer software company which has experience in education using simulators. In parallel, a business plan and IP strategy has been constructed.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
