Project duration August 2017 - December 2021
Status Completed
Venture Competence centre

Important results from the project

Aim and objective of the project was to create a better understanding of hybrid beamforming algorithms and architectures on both a theoretical and a practical level. In the second part of the project, the focus was on being able to run hybrid beamforming against real analog hardware to include effects such as phase noise, IQ imbalance etc.

Expected long term effects

The main result of the project is a digital/baseband demonstrator plattform, that can be used for testing hybrid beamforming analog front-ends and create a better understanding in test-bed setups. There is already commerical interesst for the test-plattform and it will be further developed and used in research on a European level on hybrid beamforming based systems.

Approach and implementation

The inital focus of the project was not to build an actual plattform, but to investigate practical concepts on a theoretical level. During the project Qamcom started to investigate the possibility to incorporate real hardware which resulted in the current plattform. This was only possible, because Qamcom gained access to industrial radio hardware, which was not forseable at the start of the project. Integration with the results of the MOA project has not been achieved yet (as was planned for the final 6 month) of the project, but is executed during spring 2022 without public funding.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
