Purpose and goal
There are many different types of graphene that have different properties. It is therefore important to know which graphene you have in order to be able to develop new applications. However, complete data sheets from suppliers are not always available. The purpose if these cheques were: 1) Facilitate for companies to buy quality assured graphene material. 2) Make the analysis suppliers visible in the system. 3) In addition, the entire network gets an increased knowledge of the quality of specific products / suppliers as the results will be open data (published in a material database).
Expected results and effects
The cheques were not used to the extent we hoped. One reason has been that several suppliers do not sell a specific graphene material but instead participate in projects and adapt their material according to the application. It is also common for companies to sign NDA agreements with suppliers and thus not be able to publish information about the graphene in the way that the checks required. Some positive consequences of the project are that it led to building greater understanding of graphene by initiating two new projects (Round Robin) addressing characterization of graphene.
Planned approach and implementation
Companies could apply for a check of up to SEK 60,000 to finance analysis of graphene material from an analysis supplier. The results from the analyzes then became open information for the entire network.
