Important results from the project
Tha innovation program Bygginnovationen aimed to develop a strong and sustainable innovation environment for the Swedish construction sector and was financed by Vinnova. It was started in 2011 to initiate innovation projects that can lead to commercialization and has served as an "entry program" where ideas are often tested for the first time. During the period 2011 - 2018, nearly 200 project grants were granted grant, most of which was run by small and medium-sized companies. In 2018, the Construction Innovation was completed, and the last call for proposals closed in September 2018.
Expected long term effects
The program has focused on ideas and allowed actors the opportunity to formulate an idea that can be further developed. The Business Council´s review and frequent application opportunities have facilitated unfinished ideas and actors with less habit of writing project applications. New products have been introduced in the market and new companies have been created. New and developed collaborations have been established between innovators, larger companies and financiers and relatively many project led to new and successful applications to other financiers.
Approach and implementation
The follow-up of Bygginnovationen provides the following recommendations for the future: Promote good examples. A "guide function", showing where and how the actors interested in similar innovation support can find the right forms of support. Initiate a feasibility study. Find a model that meets the special needs of the building sector. Draw the map. To review the innovation system and the financial landscape, a node that can link applicant further and help them get right.
