Brazilian-Swedish cooperation in research and development of Bio-Energy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS)

Reference number
Coordinator Biorecro AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 250 000
Project duration November 2012 - April 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose and objective of the project was to establish a network in the form of a consortium, to be able to apply for funding for research and development of the BECCS technology, particularly with respect to the local requirements in Brazil. Due to a lack of interest from Brazilian partners a consortium could not be created. Consequently, the objective of the project was not met.

Results and expected effects

The expected result was to create a basis for more extensive research funding applications and collaborations on potential Brazilian BECCS pilot plants. As no consortium was formed with Brazilian partners, no such applications were submitted and no further partnerships pursued.

Approach and implementation

The project carried out all activities except the creation of a consortium agreement, which would have been done in collaboration with Brazilian partners. Several meetings were held at location in Brazil, including with the management of one of Brazil´s largest ethanol companies, as well as with officials at government agencies and with researchers at universities.
