Important results from the project
The purpose of the Box is to enable the use of small satellite terminals without generating radio interference to other systems. With a real-time evaluation of the interference situation and guidance through the setup procedure of the satellite communication link, a more effective usage of the radio spectrum can be achieved. Such a product does not exist today. The goal of this project was to develop a product prototype that can control interference from ground terminals used in satellite communication. This was achieved and we now have a prototype that can be demonstrated for customers.
Expected long term effects
The box simplifies the establishment of the satellite link and the assessment of the actual interference situation. During the project, one of the world´s leading satellite operators has confirmed the need of such functionality and new applications have been identified. We have established valuable contacts with the spectrum authorities in Sweden and Cyprus and hope to promote a more effective use of the radio spectrum. The project has also resulted in a thesis project, starting fall 2015, focusing on real-time measurements of the antenna power.
Approach and implementation
The project plan has been executed without any major changes. The main focus has been on the developement of a portable field detector and further development of our methods for radio interference avoidance. Tests such as calibration and the hardware testing has been performed in our laboratory. One project part was discarded due to lack in both hard- and sofware performance, an alternative solution was shown to perform well. There has also been a delay of the project, however this did not affect the outcome of the project.
