BoldAR - Holografic Technology in the construction process

Reference number
Coordinator BOLDARC AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration October 2016 - February 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

BoldArc has further developed the concept BoldAR that use head-mounted holographic technology for the entire construction process. With BoldAR users can be on the construction site and ´se´ drawings for a room or an entire building projected on top of the real world objects. BoldAR will also function as a tool for logistics and planning of the construction site and as a communication tool for remote cooperation. We can see that the production time is shortened and a reduction in errors during production with increased productivity and reduced costs in the construction process as a result.

Expected results and effects

We expect BoldAR becomes a tool that promotes and facilitates cooperation between the different roles in the construction process, such as property owners, architects, construction engineers, construction project managers and subcontractors. We also see that BoldAR is a step toward moving from printed to digital drawings throughout the construction process. The result, compared to expected effects, is that the prototype adds value, but more development is required to achieve the quality and user-friendliness that is required, as well as to enable scalability.

Planned approach and implementation

The first step in the project was to conduct a workshop with our test partners (PEAB, WSP, C.F. Møller and Bjerking), where we developed suggestions for BoldAR features that increase communication and co-operation, and simplify daily work. Based on the workshop we developed a project plan for which functions should be included in the prototype for BoldAR. Subsequently, the development of the prototype began. In order to ensure functionality and quality, our test partners have continuously tested features and evaluated them.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
