Reference number
Coordinator BlueAccess AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration December 2015 - February 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The Public Transport Department of Uppsala County (UL) are looking for a system to increase the security of mobile tickets, in order to reduce the risk of losses due to fraud. UL want to evaluate BlueAccess AB´s innovative system for ticketing and payment, before a contract, through an internal pilot in the departments of sales and technology. The aim is to carry out a sufficient number of validations to evaluate the functionality and customer experience, in a reliable manner.

Expected results and effects

The pilot showed that BlueAccess met and even exceeded the goals set at the start. Technical functionality was demonstrated to be stable and secure, and provided opportunities for development of tickets with a longer validity. Customers greatly appreciate that validation using a mobile phone can easily be done in the same way as with a smart travel card. With the results of the pilot, BlueAccess technology will soon be used in new pilots with major international clients in retail and transport.

Planned approach and implementation

The pilot was conducted at UL´s head office in Uppsala. BlueAccess AB completed and installed a development system in UL´s test lab. UL has since implemented the pilot for one month. Individuals have downloaded the app in their own phones and made validations using a BlueAccess terminal. Over 420 validations were conducted and 17 people participated actively. The goal was 300 validations and 15 participants. After the pilot, an interview survey and analysis were conducted.
