Purpose and goal

The Biorefinery of the Future aim to create sustainable growth and make the region a center for biorefinery development. Cooperation in Biorefinery R&D activities with industrial members and external partners (industry or academy), is central for building a strong cluster. During the last period the environment has been established nationally and the ability to attract external funding and partners have been clearly strengthened. The goal achievement is good. Most goals are met or exceeded. We have high hopes of realization of full-scale biorefineries during the transition phase.

Expected results and effects

Most of our goals will be fulfilled by the end of 2016. In addition, other values are created, as the building of a strong and well-functioning cluster, development of working methods in the innovation system, competence and infrastructure that attracts research funding and makes us attractive as partner. FB has been established as a respected environment and our opinions are asked for by the government. This provides unique opportunities to influence the development in our field. Several promising concepts developed in the cluster have reached a position very close to realization.

Planned approach and implementation

The work to initiate and pursue biorefinery R&D cooperation along the entire value chains from forest industry to the end customer, often found in other industries, together with member companies and external stakeholders have continued in good speed. Our capacity and ability to mobilize alliances and create and manage complex projects have been strengthened and we participate to a larger extent in international projects. We have continued the work to strengthen the innovation system in collaboration with the region and also to lead promising concepts further towards realization.
