Project duration October 2015 - December 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project was to verify a technique of cleaning water from heavy metals in ionic form with fungus grown on fabric. The goal is partially met by demonstrating that Fungi can clean the water from heavy metals in ionic form. However, we have not received Fungin to stay on the fabric.

Expected results and effects

The result of the project is that we showed a 65-91% degree of purification on Zinc. However, copper has increased in tests. However, this problem has other methods of purification and we can not answer why. We have shown that we can clean the streams of water. We have seen that there is an interest in stormwater treatment. Effects we believe we will be able to deliver a new water treatment scheme for water in 2018.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been carried out for two years and divided into four milestones (MS) each was 6 months. In MS1 we did tests on 3 metals in the lab. Looked at patents that could prevent us. We found no obstacles. We conducted a market research conducted by SP, which showed that there was a market and multiple uses. In MS2 we did tests with the Swedish Transport Administration and four municipalities and tested the flow impact. The tests went wrong and we had to redo this in MS3. In MS4 we took the test results and designed a prototype. As well as developing a technique for growing on a large scale.
