Reference number
Coordinator RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB - Division Samhällsbyggnad
Funding from Vinnova SEK 100 000
Project duration December 2019 - November 2020
Status Completed
Venture Sweden Brazil Innovation Initiative
Call Planning grant för collaboration with Brazil 2019

Important results from the project

Opportunities for research and innovation collaboration would be explored with the Brazilian research institute SENAI and companies in the restaurant and mining industry in Brazil. In addition, local conditions would be investigated for potential of further development and establishment of new Swedish technology, in bioprocesses and metal extraction. Focus areas have been bioeconomy and circular economy. The above was done during the year with a positive response and good interest in collaborations. Unfortunately, Covid-19 and change of project management created delays.

Expected long term effects

We have held digital meetings with: - Marcelo Moutini, Director R&D Technology Dept at Hydro / Alu Norte - Paulo Pietrobon at RECICLI (Electrical Waste Recycling) who also leads a Mining Hub project for CBPM (Mineral Research Bahia Company) - Flavio Ortigao, Recupera, which produces hydrogen from plastic Contact was sought with Ocean CleanUp for a possibility to use plastic waste from the Para river for the production of hydrogen and during the visit to Belém we would visit the palm oil industry, Heiniken factory and the city´s waste unit to find out the availability of biowaste.

Approach and implementation

The structured plan, based on a visit in Brazil, was difficult to uphold merely by digital contact, despite good efforts. Especially as most of the stakeholders had to adapt to the pandemic and change their priorities. Of obvious reasons the collection of material for techno economic and market potential analysis was impossible to manage.
