Project duration June 2017 - April 2018
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the conference is to visualize Sweden´s position and ambition in circular and biobased economies by highlighting the efforts in northern Sweden in general and Piteå in particular. The goal is to establish a recurring international and equal meeting place for knowledge and experience exchange in circular and biobased economics. The goal is also to enable physical meetings between stakeholders where contacts can be linked and network strengthened, which contributes to continued knowledge sharing and new innovative solutions in the area around the world.

Expected results and effects

The conference was aimed at reaching an international audience. Target group was not fully reached. EU politicians were busy with something else and we had several cancellations Close to the conference. Everyone in place was very positive and thought BIOBASE was something out of the ordinary! The feedback afterwards consisted only of good grades and several said they would take BIOBASE to Brussels. As requested, we have managed to reassemble all players for a follow-up in June 2019. The Ministry of Industry is a co-organizer, as well as the local and regional business community.

Planned approach and implementation

BIOBASE was covered by 2 days where lectures were held with technical visits where the visitor experienced the entire forest value chain. The conference offered inspiring speakers with heavy names from the industry as well as several cultural elements that enhanced the experience, including a fashion show with clothes made by Kraftliner paper and music by the organ professor at the University. An gender equality analysis shows that the conference was unusually similar to participants on stage and among the audience. This led to great media attention.
