Purpose and goal

The project aims to systematically compare RNA BaseCode against conventional long-read and short-read RNA sequencing methods. Current comparisons focus on technical metrics, such as read length and number of genes detected, that do not say much about any biological understanding or insight. In this project, we shift this comparison to focus on what really matters: the ability to provide insights into human biology.

Expected effects and result

This project will deliver a set of validated metrics for quantifying biological insight from RNA sequencing data, together with comparisons of RNA BaseCode against conventional long-read and short-read sequencing methods. The immediate effect is the sharpening of our technical communication, clearer positioning and a better understanding of the market we address. Longer term, the metrics help customers select the sequencing technology that best answers their biological question.

Planned approach and implementation

To compare these data types directly to each other, we will develop novel quantitative metrics and methods and adopt existing approaches to estimate in an unbiased way what added value RNA BaseCode can bring and perform the required experiments. Metrics will be tested against the comparison data and refined iteratively. Discussions with customers will run in parallel to help us identify which metrics best reflect the questions they need answered.
