Important results from the project
The aim of the study was to investigate how our IT system, Hamlet, can be further developed to handle new product related legal requirements within the framework of the EU´s Green Deal, such as the taxonomy and the digital product passport. The study resulted in an inventory of both existing and upcoming product legal requirements, as well as other EU initiatives. We also examined whether it is possible and how we can develop Hamlet to incorporate the new legal requirements. Based on the study, we believe it is sufficient to develop a plan for how to implement the legal requirements in Hamlet.
Expected long term effects
We have examined which product related criteria can be included in Hamlet to manage the EU´s green initiative. Although some parts of the taxonomy regulation have already been implemented within the EU, other parts, such as the new product passport, are currently only proposals. However, we have gained knowledge about these proposals and the voluntary initiatives that are ongoing to address the digital challenges. Our feasibility study provides us with sufficient information to develop a plan for how Hamlet can implement the new legal requirements.
Approach and implementation
We investigated the new sustainability criteria according to the Taxonomy for Sustainable Activities "Do no significant harm" and "Circular flows", as well as the new digital product passport. We also carried out a broader study to identify all planned legal requirements under the EU´s Green Deal that can be accommodated within Hamlet. Throughout the work, we had an ongoing dialogue with our IT architect to investigate whether it is possible and in what way we can develop our IT solution to implement the new legal requirements.
