Important results from the project
The project created a prototype for AI-supported citizen dialogue for community development through an interactive XR application in a digital twin of Skellefteå city center. The aim of the project was to explore how the combination of digital twins and available AI services can create inspiring ways for idea development and citizen dialogue in urban development projects. The prototype was demonstrated successfully in the Swedish booth during AWE - the Augmented World Expo - in Santa Clara 2023.
Expected long term effects
The AI-supported Citizen Dialogue City Builder Prototype brings a new perspective on urban design while showcasing the immense potential of AI, mixed reality, and co-creation in shaping our future cities. This cutting-edge technology could empower citizens to be an active part of the city planning process, fostering innovation, inclusivity, and a deep sense of ownership in urban development. As these technologies continue to advance, we might inspire even more groundbreaking projects that revolutionize the way we live, work, and interact with our ever-evolving urban landscapes.
Approach and implementation
The project went through four different phases with its own focus. Discovery phase - We explored different Machine Learning Model Types, 3D Tools, Digital Twin Geo Data and required hardware. Definition phase - We built a series of smaller isolated prototypes and used the insights to create a plan for the development and presentation. Development phase - We built an MR experience in Unreal Engine using the tools and technologies identified in the prototyping phase. Presentation phase - We showcased at AWE and initiated dialogues with partners for further development and future projects
