Purpose and goal

Epiroc, RISE and Mila are establishing a long-term Sweden-Canada collaboration on AI for sustainable and resilient mining. Through workshops, analyses and strategic collaboration, the project will identify common research priorities, develop a research agenda and create conditions for future innovation and research initiatives in AI for the mining industry.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to strengthen societal resilience by laying the foundation for AI solutions that secure access to critical minerals for the energy transition. The collaboration will identify research priorities, establish a common research agenda, and create the conditions for future innovations that can reduce emissions, increase resource efficiency, and reduce downtime in the mining industry.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is being implemented as a six-month collaboration between Epiroc, RISE and Mila. The work includes workshops, bilateral visits, joint analyses and strategic planning activities to map AI opportunities in mining and identify common research priorities. The parties are developing a joint roadmap and research agenda, as well as a strategy for future research and innovation projects and international funding.
