Important results from the project
The main aim of this project was to identify one main economic sector with the most promising feedstock that should be used for the implementation of Swedish Biogas technologies in order to advance the implementation of circular economy in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil.
Expected long term effects
As a result from this visit, a proposal including LiU and 8 research institutions at RJ state (UFRJ (campus Macae and campus RJ), Unirio, UFF, UERJ, UFRRJ, IME and EPE) is being prepared with the major aim to revitalize the sugarcane industry from the RJ State by implementing the Biogas solutions to that sector.
Approach and implementation
A project is under preparation by researchers from LiU and 8 research institutions and sugarcane companies for submission to ANP (Brazilian National Oil Agency) until the end of 2020. The major aim is to produce biogas and biofertilizer from all wastes from the sugarcane sector in RJ state, but with the challenge to increase the current average Biogas production from this sector (major in SP state) in at least 50%.
