Purpose and goal

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The research project´s aim was to identify, develop and adapt organizational conditions for self-organizing teams. All in all, we consider goal fulfillment to be very good. Together with industry partners, we have identified a number of such conditions. This is primarily a matter of responsive change, methodology for inter-team coordination, recognition of informal structures, ability for tactical decision-making and distributed leadership.

Expected results and effects

Together with the participating parties, we have significantly improved the state of knowledge, created an effect in the form of a changed working method in one of the organizations, and already have a large dissemination of the results through mainly publications and teaching of master´s students. The results of the project will continue to have an impact through continued publication and teaching, but also through direct and tangible input into the subsequent extension project (2019-03042).

Planned approach and implementation

The project was based on a qualitative study of agile change initiatives at two large Swedish industrial companies. We used an explorative approach where empirical data and theory have been interwoven over time to be able to continuously inform data collection and literature studies. Data were been collected through participant observations and interviews over two years. In a first step, companies´ problems and context were studied and a number of relevant aspects identified. These aspects then laid the foundation for further studies where the project results became more concrete.
