Important results from the project

The project focused on the process of street transformation rather than on the technical implementation. The goal of gaining a better understanding and knowledge of the street transformation process, possible hurdles, relevant actors and what data is desirable, was fully achieved. The original goal of achieving a concrete transformation of one street in two cities has not been achieved in Klagenfurt, but even that case has led to relevant lessons learned through a time-limited pilot project.

Expected long term effects

The effects are difficult to assess. However, it can be expected that experiences and recommendations can facilitate the planning and preparation of future street transformation projects and how hurdles can be solved. The project is not expected to increase the number of street projects, but rather to increase quality and practical feasibility as well as to contribute to strengthened internal competence in the participating cities and increased knowledge among consultants and researchers.

Approach and implementation

The project consisted of street transformation projects with a particular focus on activities during the planning process. Implementation included support measures, measurements, participation processes, surveys, interviews, and follow-ups etc. The projects had to deal with time adjustments due to political shifts in the two cities. Cooperation has worked well throughout the project. Our role has mainly been external expertise and support and sharing good examples on methods and content.
