Important results from the project
The goal of this project was to develop plant-based iron proteins within a selected production platform in collaboration with an industrial partner. We achieved this milestone by producing our proteins both in a laboratory strain and recently in a food-grade facility. With these results, we applied to the EIC Accelerator subject area of “Food from precision fermentation and algae”. This was an identified challenge for 2024 in the EIC Programme.
Expected long term effects
As a key result, we have gained a clearer understanding of our go-to-market strategy. Insights from our partners are actively guiding us in refining our protein products and focusing on the most promising market segments. Accordingly, we will launch our product as a premium, health-focused ingredient, with the long-term goal of expanding into broader food ingredient markets as our commercial presence grows.
Approach and implementation
Overall, the project progressed according to plan and we applied to the EIC Accelerator. Production is moving towards industrial scale, testing with commercial partners has been completed and results from bioavailability are expected. We now have a clearer understanding of regulatory and market introduction strategies, which will help accelerate commercialization.
