Important results from the project
The project´s goals: 1. Confirm digitalization possibilities for Volvo´s data and process. 2. Evaluate data integration level for ontology development for engineers. 3. Create ontology draft, identify gaps for Synbiosys use. 4. Promote Proof of Value path, including ontology validation for efficient fossil-free material evaluation.
Expected long term effects
Synbiosys has evaluated Volvo´s information systems with the goal of becoming fossil-free by 2040. They concluded that: 1.Volvo´s staff is ready to use AI/ML. 2.A global material information management system (MIMS) is being developed. 3.Contextualization of data is needed for better data availability and AI/ML development. 4.Focusing on a material database and fossil-free polymers was effective for the Proof of Value project. 5.Finding relevant information for technical and material decisions is time-consuming.
Approach and implementation
By combining qualitative and quantitative methods, including interviews with key stakeholders and data collection, we have gained insights into the material development process and identified opportunities for improvement. We have also analyzed the company´s databases to find any bottlenecks that may hinder efficient use of material test data.
