Important results from the project

The project developed scalable methods to strengthen community and meaningful encounters in public spaces. It resulted in a place activation process, co-creation workshops for local collaboration, micro-events as a design concept, and an observation tool. The project also created new meeting places, deeper collaboration between research, civil society and the public sector, and several spin-offs including new partnerships, project ideas and planned studies.

Expected long term effects

The project’s methods and insights are expected to support future work and spread to other places and actors. The place activation process is available in a practical handbook and can strengthen community and improve living environments over time. Co-creation workshops may continue to foster local participation, and the observation protocol provides a basis for further research on meaningful encounters, both in public spaces and other settings.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out in clear phases, from assessment of needs and scanning to design tests, adjustments and final applications. The work evolved step by step in close dialogue with the target group, where playful prototypes and practical tests shaped the results. Collaboration between practitioners and researchers characterised the process, and the timeline was followed even as some solutions were revised along the way.
