Purpose and goal

The objective of the project is to develop and verify a portable and low-cost 77 GHz radar system for the detection of enemy drones. This sensor system complements existing X-band (10 GHz) radar systems that are on the market but have great difficulty seeing small drones with a low radar target area at close range.

Expected effects and result

We are further developing our radar product and expanding from today´s application in the civil sector to a new application in the military sector. This has effects not only in pure sensor performance of the radar, but also in how we efficiently process and fuse large data sets from a network of sensors.

Planned approach and implementation

We have developed and launched a high-performance 77 GHz radar that is used today for aircraft guidance at airports. By effectively combining a number of these 77 GHz radars, a radar network suitable for detecting drones is achieved. The planned new development and application will be verified in practical tests against different types of drones and situations.
