Important results from the project
This project will deliver a novel process to allow waste aircraft de-icing fluid (ADF) to be recovered and re-used on site. Existing treatment systems convert huge quantities of waste ADF, reprocessing it to first obtain >99% glycol which is then diluted again to obtain ADF. In contrast, our approach produces 76% less waste fluid (which also contains more glycol) and recovers it for re-use in a single step. This massively reduces energy use and running costs by around 89%.

Approach and implementation
Build a pilot plant with analytical equipment to produce samples that will then be approved by existing de icing fluids suppliers. The pilot plant will be the basis for a new way of applying recycling technology in the aviation industry.
