Important results from the project
The project´s three objective were fulfilled: - conduct a project creation workshop on LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) for the Swedish mining and extraction industry where anyone who wanted could participate. - write a proposal for a strategic project within LCA for the Swedish mining and extraction industry. - build a pool of interested companies and organizations that want to be part of consortia for future applications.
Expected long term effects
In Sweden we often describe our mining industry as more sustainable than in other countries, but we don´t really have good tools to actually compare. LCA is a tool that can be used, but then the underlying data and methods need to be clarified and improved to enable relevant comparisons. The more sustainable and robust the Swedish mining and extraction industry is and the better this can be expressed, the better this industry´s competitiveness will be.
Approach and implementation
* 12 Jun: The invitation to the project creation workshop was posted on RISE´s external website. * 29 Aug: Project creator workshop on site at RISE in Stockholm with around 30 participants. The program was led by RISE, but also included presentations by Northvolt and Boliden. * 23 Sep: Digital meeting to discuss proposals for continued work with participants who could not attend on site in Stockholm. * 21 Oct: Final report including proposal for strategic project submitted to SIP SMI.
