Vinnova in European project for gender equality within research and innovation
Vinnova is participating in the European project GENDERACTIONplus2027, which aims to strengthen work for gender equality and diversity in research and innovation. The project brings together authorities, research and innovation funders and other actors in Europe to develop knowledge, tools and working methods.
The project is funded by Horisont Europa and runs from 2026 to 2028. It is coordinated by the Centre for Gender and Science at the Institute of Sociology at the Czech Academy of Sciences.
GENDERACTIONplus2027 builds on the results of the previous project GENDERACTIONplus. The goal is to make gender equality work in European research and innovation policy more inclusive and easier to follow up.
Vinnova leads collaboration between research and innovation funders
In the project, Vinnova leads a group of research and innovation funders, a so-called Community of Practice. The group brings together funders from several European countries to exchange experiences and develop expertise, methods and tools that strengthen inclusive gender equality and inclusion within research and innovation.
– Through our role, Vinnova can contribute to shaping future European working methods and recommendations for research and innovation funders. At the same time, we have the opportunity to highlight Swedish experiences and perspectives in the development of the European research area, says Sophia Ivarsson, who leads Vinnova's work in the project.
Strengthens Sweden's role in Europe
– For Sweden, the project represents an opportunity to influence European developments in gender equality and inclusion in research and innovation, continues Sophia Ivarsson.
The collaboration also gives Vinnova and other Swedish actors access to new knowledge, international networks and methods that can be used in gender equality work.
Objectives
The project will, among other things:
- strengthen networks and coordination between countries
- develop knowledge and methods for inclusive gender equality work
- develop tools for gender mainstreaming in research and innovation
- follow up on progress and contribute to long-term results
An important part of the project are the two European collaboration groups. One brings together national authorities and the other research and innovation funders. Through joint learning and practical work, the participants develop and test the project's results.
