Vinnova grants 150 million SEK to Digital Arena Sweden, for a new national test center for 5G and 6G technology. By gathering and developing Sweden's test environments, the investment will strengthen the industry's ability to develop, test and verify the digital solutions of the future.
If Swedish industry is to be able to meet a growing need for digitalization and maintain competitiveness, new, digital innovations are required that solve real problems in the short and long term. To strengthen innovation capacity, and meet the future of eligibility requirements on digitalisation, sustainability and resource efficiency, Vinnova is working together with other actors in the innovation and research program Avancerad Digitalisering.
Vinnova has now granted a new project within the program: Digital Arena Sweden. The project will receive 150 million SEK over three years to create a national test center for 5G and 6G technology, and bring together leading actors from telecommunications, industry and academia. The goal? Secure Swedish digital competitiveness.
"A test environment for future wireless systems is important for our innovation and competitiveness. Being able to test and verify digital technology is necessary to ultimately reach the market. It is a welcome addition to Vinnova's project portfolio," says Peter Åslund, programme manager.
The test center will make it easier for industry to develop and test the connected services and infrastructure of the future, from industrialized 5G to next-generation 6G technology. The center will connect existing test environments into a common platform for testing and verifying advanced digital systems. It will also offer expert support, skills development and access to the latest test technology.
The initiative is led by Telia, Ericsson, RISE Technology Infrastructure and subsidiary AstaZero, and Future by Lund. The work is being carried out in collaboration with a number of other actors in business, academia, and the public sector.
Digital Arena Sweden is part of the System-Changing Initiative, a effort on project that will change and develop Swedish industry. Six project have previously received funding.
The research and innovation program Advanced Digitalisation will give Swedish industry a leading role in future digital solutions. Solutions that strengthen competitiveness and enable and accelerate the green transition. The initiators are ABB, Ericsson, Saab, Teknikföretagen and Sweden’s innovation agency Vinnova.
