Other actors
It is not only us at Vinnova who think that police lab is an exciting idea. The fact that more actors in society see the value of working according to this methodology is also a prerequisite for a national police lab with resources and mandates to come about in the long term.
Among other things, the Trust Delegation, which has an extended assignment aimed at authorities where Vinnova is included, has written about police lab in its main report. In autumn 2018, Vinnova and the Delegation Delegation also made an agreement on cooperation for innovative policy development and trusting governance of authorities.
Sweden today have few policymakers in comparison to other countries. However, there are several exciting labs that partly address policy development.
- One example is the Renewal Lab which is run by SVID, Stiftelsen Svensk Industridesign and works mainly for creating lab environments that improve everyday life for newly arrived children and young people.

An international phenomenon
Police officers are also very much an international phenomenon, as governments and administrations around the world are struggling with similar challenges. Although the management models often look quite different in Sweden and other countries, there is much to learn in an international perspective.
The first policy lab that was established in Mindlab, in Denmark, has had great influence on other countries. After 16 years as an active lab, the Danish government chose in the spring of 2018 to instead create a new lab with a stronger focus on digitization, the Disruption task force.
