Impact Innovation - mobilizing for sustainable development
The Energy Agency, Formas and Vinnova are launching the next generation strategic innovation program - Impact Innovation. It is an actor-driven and long-term collection of forces that will contribute to global competitiveness through transformation for sustainable development.
The program will focus on three overarching societal challenges:
- Production, consumption and value chains within the boundaries of the planet
- Good and equal health
- Attractive and well-functioning communities

Make a difference with innovation
In the fall of 2022, a mobilization process started, which will result in the programme that will start in 2024. Right now, the assessment process is underway for the applications for preparatory projects for Impact that have been received. In the applications, the actors describe the system change they want to achieve. The next step in the process is, among other things, that constellations of actors formulate common objective (so-called missions) that a future programme must be able to meet.

Only the dates for the first assessment process, dates in 2022, are set. Other dates are preliminary.What is Impact Innovation?
Impact Innovation is a gathering of forces where actors from business, academia, the public sector and civil society come together to meet the societal challenges of our time and the future. It is a continuation of the ongoing strategic innovation programs that started in 2013. The programme that are being formed that will start in full force in 2024.
For more powerful effects, a few major programme must be prioritized in areas that are strategically important for Sweden. The new programs must to a greater extent address areas of broad societal relevance to ensure greater systemic effects. They must clearly contribute to global competitiveness through transformation for sustainable development and have a clearly stated direction (that is, objective or so-called missions).
Seminar on Impact Innovation - innovation week
On 3 October, during the Innovation Week, Vinnova, Formas and the Energy Agency invited to a seminar about the investment Impact Innovation. The theme of the seminar was the opportunities for the public sector to take a place and be part of actor-driven partnership programmes and what role public actors are expected to take in the initiative.
