From research to commercialization - support for verification and validation

Vinnova has received a government assignment to promote the verification and validation of ideas and research results with great potential to be translated into concrete benefits through commercialization.

Part of the support will be directed at researchers, students and employees at universities, university colleges and research institutes. This applies to actors who want to verify their ideas or research results with aim of more research being commercialized at the right time.

In 2025, Vinnova has developed the Verification of growth (VFT) initiative. This is aimed at higher education institutions that receive funding to run activities at innovation offices. The initiative will provide innovation offices support to take knowledge-intensive ideas further towards commercialization through verification and validation.

The purpose of VFT activities is to:

  • Increase the maturity of ideas by testing market potential.
  • Develop commercial strategies for intangible assets.
  • Enable testing against an international market.
  • Preparing ideas for investments.

To maximize the effect of Vinnova's funds, we emphasize in this year's effort the importance of international connectivity, data-driven follow-up and strategic management of knowledge assets.

In 2025, Vinnova has granted 14 innovation offices a two-year support with a total grant budget of SEK 90 million. Vinnova has also granted SEK 7 million to strategic project. These funds aim to further develop the universities' processes and work with commercialization and entrepreneurship.

To further strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem, Vinnova organized a seminar in September that brought together ecosystem actors for a dialogue on how entrepreneurial ability within and near academia can be strengthened.
