AI for science – research, data and infrastructure in interaction

Organised by: Vetenskapsrådet och Vinnova

AI is rapidly changing how research is planned, implemented and quality assured. This year's meeting focuses on what the development means for large-scale research infrastructures such as ESS, MAX IV and SciLifeLab – and for the HPC, data and AI services that support research. Welcome to the ESS/MAX IV/SciLifeLab Summit 2026.

Together we will explore how research infrastructures need to evolve to enable AI-driven research, how scientific quality, reproducibility and trust can be ensured and what researchers need to be able to use new AI opportunities effectively and responsibly. During the day, participants will jointly map the AI-supported research process, identify responsibilities, needs and gaps and formulate priorities for how research infrastructures, computational resources and data capacity need to be connected.

The Summit brings together researchers, research infrastructures, HPC and data service providers, research funders, industry, and experts in AI, governance, and research integrity. The goal is to identify the connections, capabilities, and priorities that need to be strengthened for Sweden and Europe to fully benefit from AI in research.

Sometimes we photograph or video record our activities. If you don't want to participate in photos or videos, please let us know when you arrive.
