Responsible internationalisation in education, research and innovation

Organised by: Kungl. Ingenjörsvetenskapsakademien, Vinnova, Vetenskapsrådet, Universitets- och högskolerådet
IVA Konferenscenter, Grev Turegatan 16, Stockholm Mon 3 Feb 2025 at 16:00-17:30

Sweden depends on collaboration with academic, political and commercial actors in the world to ensure development and prosperity. At the same time, today's security and geopolitical challenges mean that the tensions between scientific openness and national security have become increasingly pronounced. What do we need to promote responsible internationalisation, where international collaborations are conducted as openly as possible and as securely as necessary?

Welcome to the report launch where the Swedish Council for Higher Education, Vinnova and the Swedish Research Council present their jointly developed proposals for guiding national guidelines and support, in accordance with the authorities' government assignment to promote responsible internationalisation in education, research and innovation collaborations. During the seminar, the final report will be presented and discussed by representatives of the private and public sectors and academia.

Responsible internationalisation is of great importance to both academia and business, as it is a prerequisite for developing new knowledge and new technologies that can contribute to the development of society. At the same time, new and complex challenges require increased awareness and caution about how we handle national interests, knowledge and technology in international contexts.

One of the proposals in the final report is a support function to help universities, authorities and other actors manage the complex considerations that international collaborations require, especially in today's security policy climate. The ambition is that the support function will encompass all actors in the research and innovation system: universities, authorities and research institutes, Science parks, and all actors in the business sector from start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, to well-established and larger companies.

Initially, a knowledge base that was developed in connection with the investigation is also presented: Managing international collaborations in a geopolitically turbulent world.

Welcome to participate in discussion and exchange of experiences during the seminar and subsequent mingle at IVA!

The seminar will be available to watch digitally afterwards.
