The evaluators Tomas Åström and Erik Arnold from Technopolis Group present conclusions and recommendations from the report: Meta-evaluation of the Swedish Strategic Innovation Programs

The conclusions are discussed in the light of current and future needs for policy development. An important part of the assignment to the evaluators has been to aim at how instruments similar to the strategic innovation programs could be developed to better meet current societal challenges and the need for change and system innovation.

More about the strategic innovation programs

Since 2013, the state finances 17 strategic innovation programs through Vinnova, the Energy Agency and Formas. Since its inception, these programme have been evaluated and analyzed in several rounds. Partly, for the programs' own development, partly to contribute to overall learning about research and innovation policy. The programs receive a decision on continued funding every three years for a maximum of 12 years. On February 27, 2024, five programme were decided within the Impact Innovation initiative, which is the next generation of strategic innovation programs.
