Industrial utilization of neutron and synchrotron light-based technologies in large-scale research infrastructure

This offer supports two types of project initiatives that build competence around industrial utiliation of advanced experimental environments as to those developed at MAX IV and ESS in Lund. The project proposal must meet the needs of at least one company and must be implemented in collaboration with expertise in current neutron and / or synchrotron light-based technology. Note that changes occur compared to the corresponding offer 2020. An English translation of the Call for Proposals instruction document will be published shortly

The offer in brief

What can you apply for?

Pilot project: Project time max 18 months Development projects: Project time max 24 months

Who can apply?

Legal entities. Companies that have previously been granted a Pilot Project (also called a Pilot Experiment) at a previous call from Vinnova can no longer apply for further Pilot Projects. A Development project does however not presuppose a previously completed Pilot project

How much can you apply for?

Pilot project: A maximum of SEK 500,000 per project application No eligibility requirements on the share of own funding of the project costs Development projects: A maximum of SEK 1,500,000 per project application. At least 30% of the total project costs must be financed by the parties themselves. Total budget for the call for proposals: SEK 15 million

The offer in brief

Through the funding, Vinnova wants to strengthen the capacity for industrial use of technologies based on neutron scattering and synchrotron light in large-scale research infrastructure.

A granted project must be based on development needs and potential for long-term utilization for Swedish companies, of which at least one must be a project participant.

All project proposals must include the implementation of at least one experiments at an already identified experimental station / beamline at a neutron or synchrotron light facility. At least one additional Swedish participant must therefore ensure expert competence regarding both the analytical technique and the industrial application.

Experiments are allowed to be conducted at both MAX IV and at any international large-scale research infrastructure for neutron- and synchrotron light techniques. It is possible to use all types of experiment time allowed at the research infratrsucture and experimental time / beamtime is an eligible cost.

Up to SEK 15 million is set aside for project within two different sub-offers:

Pilot project

Each Pilot project can apply for up to SEK 500,000 in funding for a maximum of 18 months of project time. For Pilot projects, there are no overall eligibility requirements for the share of own funding of the project's total budget.

The project activities shall aim at verification of the technicians' added value for the company's needs in addition to what can be obtained with analytical tools available in a normal laboratory environment.

Pilot project aims to give companies a first- experience of using a large-scale research infrastructure. Please note that the offer can no longer be applied for by a company that has previously received corresponding funding from Vinnova.

Development project

A development project can apply for up to SEK 1 500 000  in funding for a maximum of 24 months project time. Participating project partners must assist with at least 30 percent of own funding of the total project cost.

The project activities shall meet development needs where the necessity to use large-scale research infrastructure is already known to the company, but it is judged that there is added value to be gained through further advanced experiments at identified experiment stations / beamlines for neutron or synchrotron based technologies.

  • How to apply

To apply for funding, you need to log in and complete an application form in our eServices portal. The application form contains questions about your project, the participants taking part in the project and your budget.

Download document templates for your attachments

Please download the templates for the documents you need to attach to your application such as a CV or project description.

    Please allow enough time

Please keep in mind that it takes time to complete an application. Filling in the templates can take several days, since they're based on analyses you need to do. Therefore, start the application well in advance. You can start filling in your details, then save and continue at a later time.

When you've completed your application, please mark it as done ("klar"). You can unlock and make changes to your application at any time until the call closes. If you unlock your application, you must mark it as done ("klarmarkera") if you want the application registered when the call closes.

This happens when the call is closed

Once your proposal registered, we will email a confirmation to the person in charge of the user account and to the project manager and the signatory. This may take a few hours after the call is closed.

When the call is closed, you can not change or fill in any new information. Then you can only complete your proposal if we ask for it.

    Who can read your proposal?

Applications submitted to us become public documents. But we do not disclose information about the business, inventions or research results if it can be assumed that someone is suffering financial damage if the information is shown.

This means that we must release the documents if someone requests them. However, we keep confidential the information that we believe could cause financial damage if it is disclosed.
