Important results from the project
The purpose of the present project has been to support participating organizations with their open innovation activities and to conduct scientific research in the area of open innovation. The result is tools and models for how to conduct deep, open innovation collaborations. Results have been presented at leading international conferences and resulted in five articles ready for publication.
Expected long term effects
We have continuously reported our results to and acted as ´mentors´ for the participating organizations. From a scientific point, we have developed five articles and one teaching case. These make a theoretical and empirical contribution to our understanding of open innovation in an industrial context. To increase dissemination of our results, we have regularly conducted open lectures and workshops with external actors.
Approach and implementation
Our approach has been in-depth case studies of specific projects within the participating organizations. In total, we have conducted more than 70 interviews and studied a large amount of internal documentation. Specific research questions include: under what conditions should firms be open with their innovation activities? How to balance trust with control in inter-organizational relationships? How can trust between organizations be repaired, once broken? How does open innovation influence internal power structures?
