Important results from the project
We have developed new solutions for abandoned houses and low-use properties through new resource-sharing solutions that enable more people to live in rural communities. Our strategy strengthens the co-creative power in the countryside and drives place-based and resource-efficient rural development. The goal is a long-term and socially sustainable housing supply, where the municipality and civil society work together to reach the common goal of a viable local community. The project has developed proposals for prototypes to materialise the strategy.
Expected long term effects
Results: Increased knowledge about spatial and social conditions on site and how sharing architecture can meet needs. Increased knowledge about the location´s organizational capacity and real estate economic potential. Development of housing concepts for abandoned houses. Proposal for development and management plan to implement a prototype. Making alternative development tracks visible. Effect: Increase the utilisation of abandoned houses and variety in the housing stock. A new strategy for a socially sustainable housing development for rural areas.
Approach and implementation
Our work is based on a hands-on approach where our cross-disciplinary team worked site-specific, to explore and develop derelict houses and underutilized properties. The work has included site visits, interviews and analyzes to identify needs, resources and challenges, as well as to formulate solutions and proposals for development that set in motion a new rural strategy.
