Important results from the project
The project discusses new ways forward in the urban planning process where small actors are allowed to participate on the same term as large companies. The goal was “to influence urban planning processes in Umeå and in general”. The main idea "Folktomten" shows how it is possible to create a simple tool for local entrepreneurs and small developers to participate in city building as well as how to broaden the field of conceivable actors and make small-scale tests alongside the usual process.
Expected long term effects
The project opens up for user-driven urban development. The continuation of this project will result in new policy documents which will be published along with other material on the subject.
Approach and implementation
After analysing the study area, the team made a proposal of a method of distributing land for direct citizen influence, the "folktomten", was developed and presented. A final report included a development plan that will now be implemented in the next stage.
